To Die is Gain

Philippians 1:21-26:  For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, 26 so that through my being with you again your joy in Christ Jesus will overflow on account of me.

Sorry I haven’t posted too much recently. My schedule has been packed with tests, studying, and more tests. School is almost over, so I’ll try to post more often!

I was just thinking about this verse as I was listening to a new Trip Lee song called, “I’m Good” featuring Lecrae. In that song a line says: “My life is hidden in Him so when I die I gain.”

Paul was torn between dying and seeing Christ or continuing to serve Him on this earth. Either way Paul would’ve been fine with, though. If he continued to live on this earth, he was going to do anything he could to bring people to Jesus Christ. If he died, he’d get to be with Jesus which is “better by far.” Paul wasn’t scared of death. He was ready for it. He desired it, so that he could be with Christ. I find that amazing! Paul was so committed to his relationship with Christ that it was the source of joy and the focus of his life.

I just wanted to write a post to encourage other Christians. You don’t need to fear death if you are in Christ. If your life is “hidden in Him” you will be with Him as soon as you take your last breath on this earth. You gain so much more in your death than you ever could on this earth. Don’t fear death! Jesus conquered death and if you are in Him, then through Him you have conquered it too. When death comes, it is simply the end of your mission on earth and the beginning of a greater life in Heaven with Jesus!
